As detailed in Chapter 4 of the Discussion Paper, EPA Victoria aspires to becoming a more effective and modern regulator. We want to be more:
- transparent
- accountable
- energetic
- willing to be judged on environmental outcomes
- open to scrutiny of our decision-making

It would be great it there was the same access to EPA Licences and annual return as is available for NSW - you can download the licence as a pdf and see if they compiled with all the requirements in their annual report, and if they didn't, you get to see where not. And you can search the licence register by a range of different factors, like location, local government area, industry type - so you can compare the licence of one site with another in the same industry

Yes thanks tac we are onto that. As part of our broader licence reform intiatives, EPA recently launched our new online annual performance statement reporting (see http://www.epa.vic.gov.au/bus/licences/licence-reform.asp) and soon all licences will be available online just like they are in NSW. My main concern with the EPA is that they are a reactive group. I ring the EPA regarding ESSO Gas Plant at least once a month to report air pollution in the form of Glycol odour. Recently there have been different chemicals coming out of the plant with my wife and I sneezing all week (as had the workers at Esso) and the EPA cannot tell me what it might be.
What's most frightening is the level of authority and trust they place in ESSO, whose sole reason for existence is to make a profit. Since the EPA doesn't have more…

I recently tried to report an incident of water pollution coming from a school construction site (part of the school building revolution). As the site was being managed by another government department I was told to ring them and that it was not an EPA matter. All of the above points are great but only if you will take the calls in the first place. Again another example of preferential treatment of government departments. It seems it is OK to pollute if you are the government but not if you are a private company.
Not impressed!

I agree with Sophia same problem when reporting Parks Victoria who have allowed Woodlands Historic Park to be polluted Health Parks not !!!!!!!!!
Shame on the lot of you Parks VIC, EPA and Gavin Jennings for allowing this to happen and now trying and cover it up
Does the public now have to pay to get this cleaned up to allow health people to enjoy the park?
Your policies need to be reviewed
